REM GLEN HELEN RACE REPORT: Bryce Vallee Wins Pro Class In Front Of Brandon Brady, Dakota Tedder And Jake Canada; Matt Tedder Takes Over-40 Experts And Beats Meltdown

REM GLEN HELEN RACE REPORT:
BRYCE VALLEE WINS PRO CLASS IN FRONT OF BRANDON BRADY, DAKOTA TEDDER AND JAKE CANADA

Mount Whitney in both directions (with two clicks of the camera).

It never rains in Southern California, but somehow, some way, when no one was looking, Glen Helen got a late night downpour that left the REM track in moist condition. It didn’t rain anywhere else?and that includes a mile away from the track. Glen Helen’s location in the juncture of two mountain ranges and at the base of a large mountain pass makes it prone to all sorts of weather phenomenon that the rest of SoCal doesn’t get.

After practice the track crew worked hard to get the racing surface in the best condition possible…and they did such a good job that REM promoter Frank Thomason decided to give the Pros a sighting lap (there were no changes to the layout, just reworked turf).

Bryce Vallee (814).

Bryce Vallee went 1-1 in the Pro class with Brandon Brady going 2-2. Dakota Tedder had a 4-3, while Jake Canada turn in a 3-5.

Killy Rusk won two classes by large margins. He took the 250 intermediate class in front of Cody Young (2-2), Cody Woodworth (3-3), Garret Eckman (4-4), Brandon Baker (7-6) and Will Beevor (6-7). MXA’s Billy Musgrave was running fifth in the first moto when his KTM 150SX died for no apparent reason. Switching to a CRF250 for the second moto, Billy got up to fourth before going over the bars (luckily landing in some leftover mud from morning practice). He remounted for an 11-5 day.

Killy Rusk roosts passed the REM tower.

Rusk came back to win the Open Intermediate class (and by “Open” they mean open to any intermediate who wants to race a second class). Rusk went 1-1 again.

Matt Tedder took the Over-40 Expert class victory over Joe “Meltdown” Melton with Greg Pierce in third.

Jake Canada.

Aussie Dan Alamangos rode MXA’s Husqvarna TC250 to the Over-40 Intermediate win. The Husky engine had a prototype Pro Circuit pipe on it and new jetting. Bryan Friday was second, Mark Haupert third, Gregg Shellack fourth and Ron Shuler fifth.

Over-40 Novice was won by Kenny Campbell in front of Todd Wiseman, Mike Phillips, John Ruha, Steve Thetford, Brian Catterson, Tim Marshall, Robert Devine, and Mike Hillion.

Steve Lawler won the Over-50 Expert class. Greg Nelson was second and former Baja 500 hero Bob Rutten was third.

Myles Tedder was fifth in the Pro class.

KTM 250SXF mounted Alan Olson won the Over-60 Expert class in front of Dennis McAdam, Lars Larsson and Bengt Johansson.

In the surprise win of the decade, Michael “The Rock ” Rigdon pulled one out of the bag and won the Over-50 Novice class. Rigdon was second in the first moto behind Dennis Smith, but won the second moto as Smith dropped back to fourth. Craig Johnson was third overall, Tim Norton fourth, Steve Sullivan fifth, Mark Homan sixth, Jeff Ortberg seventh and Brian Duane eighth.

Billy Musgrave (14) and Garret Eckman (44).
