TODAY’S BIRTHDAY BOY: THE TEEN IDOL OF MOTOCROSS

Marty Smith would have celebrated his 67th birthday this week.

Marty Smith was born on November 26, 1956.  Marty was the most popular motocross rider in the world during the motorcycle boom of the 1970s. Smith won the AMA 125 National Championship in 1974 and 1975, and came back in 1977 to win the AMA 500 National Championship. His teen idol status was assured by his boyish good looks and smiling face.

Sadly, Marty left us in 2020 after a dune buggy accident that killed both Marty and Nancy Smith.
