TRAVIS PASTRANA AND MATT BIGOS UPDATE–JUNE 29

After just getting off the phone with Debbie Pastrana, we can assure you that Travis and Matt Bigos (the two involved in a serious car crash several weeks back) are feeling much better. Matt, who was initially paralyzed from his chest down immediately after the accident, now is able to wiggle his toes and feel pressure in his legs when doctors administer tests to his legs. Debbie has told us that doctors are confident that Matt will be able to walk once the swelling around his spinal cord recedes, along with therapeutic aid from doctors to help him along the way. As for Travis, he is close to 100% healthy from the injuries sustained in the car crash. Travis displaced nerves in his thumb and several fingers, as well as hemorrhaging an artery in his head. Debbie said that the doctors immediately stopped the bleeding around his head and were planning on amputating his thumb and several fingers. Debbie informed us that when Travis was going in to get his fingers and thumb amputated, she “pulled Travis off the gurney when he was headed towards surgery and thought that something just wasn’t right.” She took Travis to another doctor and his prognosis was that he could save Travis’ fingers and thumb. Little did the doctor know that after only two weeks Travis has almost fully recovered.

In the meantime, Travis has been calling Matt or visiting him everyday. Debbie said, “The terrible experience brought the two together and has given Travis and Matt a bond that cannot be broken. I know that Travis should be dead, and he realizes that he has been given a new lease on life. Before the crash Matt and Travis hardly knew each other, but now are really close. I don’t care what anyone says, but a deer jumped out in front of them. There wasn’t any drugs or alcohol involved, I mean, Travis hasn’t touched that stuff ever in his life. He was speeding, plain and simple. It was stupid and he knows it. I haven’t even looked on the Internet to see what people are saying, but we did hear about what Jeremy (McGrath) said. I couldn’t believe that Jeremy said that, because everyone in his or her lifetime has done stupid stuff. Travis is a 19-year-old kid that used to speed, but now doesn’t want to own a fast car and said he will never do anything like that again unless it’s on a closed track. It was a real eye opener for him because never before when he got hurt did he also injure someone else. With Matt also getting hurt, Travis has learned that he should never do things like speed down a country road late at night and has now learned to be more responsible. After the crash, I haven’t ever seen him like this; he has a totally different attitude. He understands that God has given him a second chance. I just want to thank everyone whom has prayed for he and Matt, I truly believe without the prayer chain that both kids would be completely worse off. We still need to pray for Matt because he still has a ways to go, but I thank you dearly for those who have prayed for Matt and my son.”

Travis will be flying out to California this weekend to meet his favorite movie producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, and to see “Pirates of the Caribbean.” After that, Pastrana will be headed to France to drive an F-1 racecar. Travis still plans on racing the Supermoto series and might do Gravity Games and the X Games. From what Debbie said, we truly believe that Travis has learned from his mistakes. Please continue to pray for Matt Bigos.
