WATCH THE 2023 WASHOUGAL NATIONAL IN UNDER 12 MINUTES

The annual Washougal 250/450 National is one of the most scenic racetracks to watch, but the dirt leaves a lot of be desired as it quickly forms into a one-line racetrack. It is also the race that leads to the biggest break in the National schedule as MXSports calls a halt to AMA Nationals because they don’t have enough personnel to hold the Loretta Lynn Amateur National Championship races and an AMA National at the same time—thus the Nationals will not return until August 11—when the three-race season ending charge will begin at Unadilla.

In the 450 class, Jett Lawrence did pretty much what he has been doing all season only. The only difference is that he didn’t get to lead every lap as Aaron Plessinger got out front in the second moto and held him off for several laps.

Thankfully the 250 class was exciting as Haiden Deegan went 1-1 to win his second AMA 250 National of the 2023 season and close the gap to just 3-points behind Hunter Lawrence with three races to go. Deegan was impressive with a 1-1 to Justin Cooper’s 3-2 and Hunter Lawrence’s 2-4.

In a side note, lots of industry companies donated money to pay a bonus to the highest placing two-stroke rider in the 450 class. Local hero Carson Brown was 21st overall with a 18-21 score and took home almost $19,000 —which is more more money than the combined purse payout for the top three in the 450 class . Venezulian Anthonyy Rodriques was the second highest placing 250two-stroke with a 21-20, Kiwi Hamish Hardwood went 24-22 and Kevin Moranz had a 28-26 score.
