2020 YAMAHA YZ450F FIRST RIDE IMPRESSIONS VIDEO

MXA’S FIRST RIDE ON THE 2020 YAMAHA YZ450F

We spent a full day with Yamaha’s R&D crew out at Milestone to learn all about the new 2020 Yamaha YZ450F and to spin some laps on it. The YZ450F doesn’t look any different on the outside, but once we dug into this bike we learned that they made a lot of changes. This bike has a lower engine to help with the handling, it has a new head, the cams have an updated profile and timing, new piston and rings, new connecting rod, new shift fork, new brakes and more. Travis Preston, former 2002 125 West Coast Supercross Champion and now Yamaha R&D employee, explained that the lower engine and the lower camshafts made a huge difference in the handling characteristics of the bike to make it feel lighter and more nimble coming into corners. We definitely appreciated noticed this about the bike when we rode the new 2020 model back to back with a brand new 2019 Yamaha YZ450F. As always, this video is just our first impressions after logging in one day of riding on the bike. Now that we have the bike in our possession we have already logged in many hours on the bike with multiple test riders to give us their feed back. You can get the full MXA Race test on this bike in an upcoming issue of Motocross Action Magazine.
