2021 PRO MOTOCROSS SCHEDULE

The 2021 Pro Motocross Championship is underway and after two rounds of racing, it’s Ken Roczen with the red plate and points lead by a 1-point margin over 450 rookie and last year’s 250 National Champion, Dylan Ferrandis. Ken and Dylan have been the quickest and most consistent while Aaron Plessinger is the next best rider so far. He’s sitting third after two rounds, 14-points behind Roczen. Two other stand out riders have been 450 youngsters Adam Cianciarulo and Chase Sexton. They’ve been fast as well, but have both suffered from mistakes and crashes.

Eli Tomac and Cooper Webb were expected to be front runners right away, but they’ve struggled. Tomac is 44-points off Ken Roczen and Cooper Webb sits 38-points back. Last year’s Champion, Zach Osborne came into the season still nursing an injury and he’s still been dealing with lingering affects from it, causing him to DNF the second moto at Thunder Valley. It’s been an exciting season to watch already and we still have ten races to go.

The 12-round schedule for the 2021 Pro Motocross Championship is unique as it starts of slow, racing two weekends in a row, then taking one weekend off before going to High Point on June 19th and taking another week off. The slow start to the series will help riders like Osborne, Webb and Tomac who haven’t been at the front early on. After three weekends of racing and two weekends off, things will start to pick up. Round four on July 3rd at RedBud will kick off a four week stretch of racing each Saturday. Then, the series will take two weekends off while the MX Sports crew heads to the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National. Finally, the series picks up again on August 14th at Unadilla and will race five weeks in a row to finish off the 2021 National season.

MX Sports Press Release: (May 21, 2021) – Following the newly announced lift in various COVID-19 restrictions in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, MX Sports Pro Racing has announced an updated event date for the Southwick National. The annual visit to New England was originally scheduled for June 26, but will now commence on July 10 as the fifth round of the 2021 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing.

The decision to move Southwick to a later date is in an effort to better accommodate event organizers at The Wick 338. Due to previous concerns in the ongoing communication with state and local health officials in Hampden County to host large public gatherings, preparations for this year’s event were briefly halted. However, following the latest announcement from Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker to lift the state’s remaining restrictions, the staff at The Wick 338 has resumed its efforts to welcome the anticipated return of American motocross, following the event’s cancellation last season.

“We want to commend Rick Johnson, Keith Johnson, and the team at The Wick 338 for their resiliency over the past year,” said Roy Janson, Managing Director at MX Sports Pro Racing. “They have faced quite a difficult task navigating the state’s mitigation strategies, but have remained steadfast in doing everything possible to successfully host the Southwick National for the 2021 season. Fortunately, their patience has allowed them to reach this celebratory juncture in which fans will be openly welcomed to watch the world’s fastest racers tackle the hallowed sands of Southwick, albeit at a slightly later date than originally planned.”

The 2021 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship will begin on Saturday, May 29, with the Fox Raceway I National in Southern California. With its new date on the calendar, the Southwick National will move from Round 4 of the season to Round 5, following the RedBud National over the Independence Day holiday.

Ticket availability for the Southwick National will be announced in the near future.
