MXA’S WORLD TWO-STROKE BIKES

RUMPROJECThuskyWith the 2017 MTA World Two-Stroke Championship coming up on April 15 at Glen Helen, the MXA wrecking crew is just starting to get the bikes ready to race. This is our project 2017 Husqvarna TC250 (in traditional Swedish colors). It will get its shakedown cruise today at Glen Helen.

RUMktm250Our trusty but rusty 2017 KTM 250SX has been raced every weekend for the past seven months. It is largely stock, but does have a Dicks Racing bored-out Mikuni TM carb equipped with a Intelajet system.

tm300MXstudioThe pride of MXA’s fleet is this ultra-trick, Ohlins-suspended, black-anodized, 2017 TM 300MX. It was built by TM’s Ralf Schmidt for MXA test rider Johnny Jelderda.

And, of course, we have our regular KTM 125SX, KTM 150SX, Husqvarna TC125, Yamaha YZ125 and Yamaha YZ250 waiting for their chance to hit Mt. Saint Helen at full tilt.

MIKE ALESSI AND JACOB HAYES TO RACE 2017 CANADIAN NATIONAL FOR KAWASAKI

Mike Alessi will finish out the Supercross season, race the World Two-Stroke Championship and then switch to Kawasaki for the Canadian Nationals.

Monster Energy Alpinestars Kawasaki has announced their team for the 2017 CMRC Canadian Motocross Championship. Returning to the team for another season will be Mike Alessi in the 450 class and Jacob Hayes in 250 class. Team owner Jason Hughessaid,  “It’s great to have Mike and Jacob back again for 2017. Mike was a great addition to our team last year and did a great job. We’re excited to build on last year’s series and capture a title in 2017. I was gutted for Jacob last year, he got hurt at the first round and didn’t get to show his true potential so I’m glad we can bring him back again this season and I know he’ll be a championship contender.”

The team will also be supporting local Kamloops native, Josh Allen, in the 450 class. Allen will be contesting all ten rounds in search of a Top Ten overall placing in the series. The 2017 CMRC Canadian Motocross series consists of ten rounds, starting on June 4, 2017, in the hometown of the Monster Energy Alpinestars Kawasaki team – Kamloops, British Columbia. THE WAY WE WERE: THE WHITE BROTHERS & BRAD LACKEY”S “SUPERBIKERS” SUZUKI

tomdanwhiteBefore there was Supermoto, there was ABC-TV’s Superbikers. It was an made-for-TV race event held at Carlsbad Raceway that featured a little road racing, a little dirt track, a little offroad and a little motocross. Because of the variety of terrain, it required a special bike. Here, Dan and Tom White stand behind the bike they built for Brad Lackey to race in 1982.

CLASSIC MOTOCROSS ADS FROM THE GOOD OLD DAYS

CZadThis CZ ad from 1975 is a little confusing. The copy says that they won the 500cc Trophy des Nations, but, in truth, they won the 1975 Motocross des Nationas. The Trophee des Naions was for 250cc machines, while the Motocoss des Nations was for 500cc bikes. CZ never won a Trophee des Nations in the races 21 year lifespan. Amazingly Roger DeCoster wa son the winning Belgian team 10 times. Belgium only won once without Roger (1980).

FOREIGN RIDERS WHO MADE THE MAINS IN DETROIT

Marvin MusquinMarvin Musquin is easily the best of the foreign riders in the 450 class, while Dylan Ferrandis, another Frenchman, is tops in the 250 East. Photo: Brian Converse

These are the top foreign riders who made the main events in Detroit last Saturday. They have come a long way to race in the USA and they deserve a round of cheers when they pass by. They are strangers in a strange land—although a few have been here long enough to lose their accents.
