SOUTHWICK NATIONAL MOTOCROSS RECAP: HAMPSHIRE THROWS ONE AWAY… THREE TIMES

This year’s Southwick National motocross was filled with crashes, the most tallied by R.J. Hampshire, but most of the front runners threw one in for good measure. Dylan Ferrandis won the 450 class with a 1-3 day—highlighted by the fact that his engine was smoking or steaming, until the mechanics told him on the pit board, “No clutch.” After that he engine cooled own and he rode at a fast, but sedate pace to get third in the second moto. EliTomac won the second 450 moto, but an 8th in moto one left him 57 points out of first place. Eli has gained a lot of ground since his terrrible performances at the start of the season and is now third overall.

Meanwhile in the 250 class, we had the fifth different winner in as many races. Last week’s 250 winner, R.J. Hampshire was the fastest 250 rider at Southwick, but once he started crashing he couldn’t stop. He held on for fourth overall with a 2-6 day, but it could have been so much better. Hunter Lawrence took the 250 win with a 1-1 score over Jo Shimoda (3-4) and Justin Cooper (6-2). Jett Lawrence was sixth with a 9-3 day, but he  held on the red plate by 3 points.
