KTM’S E-SPEED ELECTRIC SCOOTER: A VERY POINTY, LITHIUM ION POWERED ANTI-VESPA

KTM’s CEO Stefan Pierer gave an interview a month ago where he said that electric technology has long way to go before it will be truly feasible. Obviously, Pierer was only talking about dirt bikes, not scooters.

The KTM E-Speed concept scooter weighs about 140 kgs and claims a top speed of 80 kph. The E-Speed’s lithium ion batteries takes just two hours to charge from a 220V socket. It is capable of doing around 65 kilometers on a full charge. The KTM E-Speed is powered by a liquid-cooled, permanent-magnet synchronous motor that produces 15 HP of permanent power and 36 Nm of maximum torque. The power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a belt drive. The lithium-ion batteries have a capacity of storing 4.36 kWh. It also has regenerative braking to help charge the battery. With 14-inchalloy wheels and Star Wars styling the belt-driven E-Speed may just be another styling exercise that ends up where the Freeride is
