SUPER TRAPP BUYS JARDINE: DISCO NEVER DIED

SuperTrapp Industries has acquired Jardine Performance Products (SuperTrapp already owns Kerker exhausts). Jardine manufactures exhausts, back rests, racks and accessories for the Harley, metric, sport, dirt bike and ATV markets. SuperTrapp president Kevin Bergers said, “We look forward to adding Jardine Performance Products to the SuperTrapp family of products. We are confident that the combined talents and resources of the two brands will be of a great benefit to our customers and market place.”
Super Trapp and Jardine are not major players in the offroad motorcycle business, although at one time SuperTrapp’s tunable disc diffuser exhaust systems, more commonly called “Disco Jet,” was the leading four-stroke dirt bike and dual sport exhaust system.

Ben Townley has re-signed with the Carlton Dry Honda team in Australia for 2013. Townley has spent the past four months recovering from a injury he sustained at the Coonabarabran National. It is even hoped that Townley will be able to race the Australian Supercross Championships which starts in October. Ben Townley said, “I am looking forward to getting my career back on track. It is great to be able to confirm that I will be spending the next 12-15 months racing in Australia. I have enjoyed working with the Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing Team and Honda Australia so it was important for me to continue these relationships.”
RICKY CARMICHAEL TO HOLD MOTOCROSS SCHOOL AT ELSINORE ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, FOR $444

Josh Coppins and Ford Dale didn’t win at the final round of the Aussie National Motocross Championships at Coolum, but it didn’t matter because they both took large points leads in the last race of the year. Dale hung on to win the 250 crown by 2 points, while Coppins (1-2-2) followed contender Todd Waters (2-1-1) home in two out of three motos to take the 450 crown…before retiring along with Dan Reardon and Craig Anderson.

The Gorna Rositza, Bulgaria, track hosted the ninth edition of the FIM Junior Motocross World Championship and Caleb Grothues from Australia, Brian Hsu from Germany and Tim Gajser from Slovenia became the 2012 FIM 65cc, 85cc and 125cc Junior World Champions respectively. Team Netherlands was on the top of the podium this weekend as the winning team of this year’s edition thanks to their consistent results, team Italy was second and Team USA completed the top three.

GODSPEED! MIKE SHOEMAKER (1960-2012): DONNIE HANSEN’S TRIBUTE TO HIS FRIEND MIKE SHOEMAKER
Broc Shoemaker (11) is carrying the heritage of his late father on in the sport of motocross.
My best friend, Mike Shoemaker, passed away yesterday from a hard-fought battle with cancer. Mike was a former Pro from back in the 1980’s racing for Team Tamm on a Honda. He was the nicest guy you will ever meet, and loved by all. He is survived by his wife, Debbie, and three sons, Shane, Broc and Devan. It brings tears to my eyes just writing this.

Mike Shoemaker was from Simi Valley and raced at Indian Dunes, Saddleback and Carlsbad. Mike raced the AMA 500 Nationals in1983, finishing 7th overall at the Saddleback National, 12th at Washougal, 15th at Red Bud, 15th at Lakewood and 17th at Lake Whitney. Mike also made two Supercross mains in 1983, with a 15th at Seattle and a 16th in Dallas. Today, Mike’s son Broc is a pro racer who is carrying on the tradition of his dad.

TOMMY SEARLE TO RACE 450 CLASS FOR THE CLS KAWASAKI TEAM IN 2013

When Tommy Searle turned 23 earlier this year he knew his days in the 250 World Championships were limited?because of a rule that age limits riders in the 250 class to under 23. Searle would have gone on the open market, but the CLS Kawasaki team, which just happens to be who he rides the 250 class for this year, signed him to join them again as a 450 rider.

Tommy Searle said, “I’m really happy to continue racing with Kawasaki; I spent a lot of my amateur career with them and we have been together again for two years. I really like the KX450F-SR and it was a big decision for me. I’ve been stressed during the last couple of days as it was an important decision in my career. I like the team, but for sure we need to continue to advance as the battle will be even tougher in the MX1 class but I trust everyone in the team and for sure we will get great results. I expect to be fighting for the win every weekend; it will be my first experience in the class but we’ll have all winter to work hard and be ready for the first GP.”

USED IT, ABUSED IT, TESTED IT: ACERBIS KTM X-SEAT
For all practical purposes, the X-Seat is a one-piece unit. Think of the X-Seat as a Milky Way candy bar: a thick outer skin filled with dense closed-cell foam. While not bulletproof, the X-Seat withstood the rigors of MXA‘s knee brace-wearing test riders without any ill effects. Over time, the exoskeleton suffered some scratches, but no tears. In fact, we punched a hole in it to see what would happen. Nothing happened. The hole did not spread, tear or even show up. The X-Seat is 10 times stronger on the surface than a conventional seat.
VERDICT: Depending on your brand of pants and how tight you wear them, the X-Seat’s ripples could pull your pants down when you are sliding fore and aft into corners. Every MXA test rider latched his pants a little tighter when using the X-Seat. It is also on the firm side. KTM owners normally complain about how soft the stock seat gets, so if they switch to the X-Seat they’ll never have that particular complaint. It is not soft. When you think about it, if you are going to hold a round of the World Motocross Championship in Thailand, you might as well stay around an extra week and race in India. If you extend this logic even further, it’s not that far in kilometers to hold a Grand Prix of Afghanistan. Don’t laugh. Youthstream’s Giuseppe Luongo announced at last week’s British GP that he is signing a deal to host a round of the MXGP series in Boa, India, in 2014. We are taking bets on Iran for 2015.
ZACH BELL HOLESHOT THE FIRST AMA NATIONAL HE EVER RACED, BUT WON’T GET TO RACE ANOTHER ONE UNTIL 2013…BELL OUT OF ACTION
Zach Bell raced his first-ever AMA 250 National at Southwick and pulled a holeshot the first time out of the gate, but then he crashed. Then, a week later at Unadilla he holeshot the first moto and again crashed. The injuries he suffered to his T3 and T4 vertebrae are bad enough to require Zach to wear a back brace and miss the remainder of the AMA Nationals series. Doctors expect a full recovery for Bell, who will use a back brace for 8-12 weeks. No surgery will be required. See Zach’s Pro debut below:
