• REMEMBER WHEN? JT RACING FOUNDER JOHN GREGORY LANDED IN THE TOP OF A TREE
JT Racing founder John Gregory sold JT Racing to paintball company Brass Eagle in 2000 and retired to Idaho, where he took up flying as a hobby. However, in April of 2019, John crashed his Piper Cub PA-18 into a 60-foot tall white fir when his Cub lost power. All hail the chief: Naoki Kawaguchi.
Kawasaki U.S.A. welcomes Naoki Kawaguchi to the role of President effective immediately. Mr. Kawaguchi has a long history with Kawasaki most recently serving as the Executive Vice President, 4-Wheel Business at Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. where he oversaw continued sales growth and the highly successful launches of both the Kawasaki Teryx KRX-4 1000 and Kawasaki RIDGE side x side vehicles.
Mr. Kawaguchi started with Kawasaki 30 years ago as an engineer and has built a diverse background in a variety of roles including Vice President at Kawasaki Motors Enterprise Co., LTD in Thailand, various roles within Marketing & Sales as well as Business Planning divisions with Kawasaki Motors in Japan, and President of Kawasaki Motores do Brazil Ltda. all prior to coming to the United States in 2022.
Former Kawasaki President Mr. Eigo Konya will return to Kawasaki Motors, LTD. in Japan where he will serve as Deputy General Manager of Sales & Marketing, Senior Manager of Sales Planning Division, and Manager of Accessories Section.
• GLEN HELEN OFFERS A $10,000 PRO PURSE AT THE “STOPWATCH NATIONAL” ON THURSDAY, MAY 16
Glen Helen Raceway will host the the upcoming “Stopwatch National” on Thursday, May 16th. Originally this was scheduled to be a one-lap timed challenge, but Glen Helen decided to turn it into a two-moto race format, with 30-minute plus 1 lap motos for the 250 and 450 pros combined. Given its date on the calendar it is a warm-up race so that riders can get prepared for the opening AMA Nationl on May 25 at Pala Raceway. Glen Helen will pay the top ten, with the winner getting $4000 (which is what a 250 East/West Supercross rider gets for finishing second in an AMA Supercross and more than a fourth place rider gets in a 450 Supercross).

WP recently introduced a new steering damper that bolts onto your 2023and 2024 KTM and Husky frame (also 2024 GasGas frames) to increase stability on the front end. The WP damper looks like a copy of the old school Honda HPSD steering stabilizer that came stock on Hondas and is now sold as an aftermarket upgrade. With the WP steering damper, the MXA test riders could come into corners faster because of how well the front end stayed straight and planted on the ground. The Wiseco World Two-Stroke Championship was originally scheduled at Glen Helen Raceway for March 29-30, but due to a continuous string of West Coast rain storms, the race was rescheduled to April 19-20. Glen Helen only gets 5 inches of rain in drought years and 15 inches of rain on average, but this year it has been hit with rain storms virtually every week through January, February and March—resulting in 26 inches of rain falling in only three months. For the November 2012 issue of MXA we were working on a KTM 125SX versus KTM 150SX Shootout and ask Kurt and Daryl to do the riding for the photo shoot. John Basher shot the photo above (which didn’t appeared on the cover), but the photo shoot turned into a race as neither one was willing to give an inch. The result was an afternoon of laughter, close calls and memorable photos. The actual cover appears below.
