MXA’S WEEKEND NEWS ROUND-UP: IT’S TIME TO TAKE A BREAK FROM TV & GO RIDE YOUR BIKE

• IN THE MIDST OF RUMORS THAT ROUND TWO OF THE WSX HAS BEEN CANCELED, WE NOTICED THIS TODAY!

On the home page of the FIM World Supercross website on June 23, 2023,  the date for round two in Lyon-Decines, France, appears to have been deleted—plus the “Buy Tickets” box is empty.. That could be a clerical error, it could mean that a new date (later in the series will be added) or that the WSX is scrambling to find a new location.

• THE SUPERMOTOCROSS PLAYOFFS PURSE MONEY AND FINAL $$$ BONUSES

The SuperMotocross World Championship series pays $10 million in prize money — with $4.5 million awarded throughout AMA Supercross and AMA National Motocross Championships. The remaining $5.5 million represents the purse and bonus money for the three-race SuperMotocross World Championship playoffs.

450 SUPERMOTOCROSS POINTS FUND BY PLACE

This money goes to the riders with the most combined points from the three 450 SuperMotocross playoff races.

250 SUPERMOTOCROSS POINTS FUND BY PLACE

The 250 class pays half as much to the first four riders in combined SuperMotocross playoff points and then considerably less after that.

Each of the three playoff events will also have an individual race purse of $404,810 per race. First place in any of the three 450 playoff races will pay first place $100,000, second place $50,000, third $25,000, fourth $10,000, fifth $5000, sixth $4000, seventh $3900,  then continues in thousand dollar increments to 30th place (which includes the Last Chance Qualifier competitors).

• FIRST LOOK! 2024 GASGAS ELECTRIC BEACH CRUISER

GasGas plans to release its Moto Urban Cruiser as a one-size-fits-all electric beach cruiser for maximum fun on daily rides. Inspired by the iconic California beach cruiser, the GasGas Moto Urban Cruiser has taken the much-loved concept and raised the bar. Simple in design, the durable, and very red, steel frame creates a relaxed riding position aided by its extra-long bench-style seat. The Supermoto-inspired 20-inch wheels compliment the look and feel of this two-wheeled party bike!

The power comes from a pedal-assist rear hub electric motor with maximum motor output of 672 Wh battery. There is a special American version that features a throttle grip and 720Wh of battery power.

No word on MSRP or when it will hit dealerships in the USA.

This is the cover of the August 2023 issue of  MXA. On the cover is Pro Circuit’s Yamaha YZ125 project bike and the 2023-1/2 GasGas’ MC450F Factory Edition.  Inside are full-length tests of the  2023 Honda CRF450WE Works Edition (not to mention the 2023-1/2 MC450F Factory Edition) and a retro test of the 1999 Suzuki RM250 two-stroke. We take a close-up look at the 1976 Yamaha OW25—a bike that has a unique history because before the start of the 1976 racing season, Yamaha pulled out of racing—leaving their American (and GP teams) to fire their veteran riders go and bring in three relatively unknown and lower-paid  youngsters. The three USA riders were Rick Burgett, Danny Turner and Bob Hannah. Additionally, the MXA wrecking crew headed to Japan for the Kamisu City Beach Race (with a side trip to the Honda Museum). There is so much more inside. Did we mention the indepth interview with Brian Deegan? You’ll never know how much you have missed if you don’t subscribe? Plus, you can subscribe without it costing you a cent!

Did you know that you can subscribe to MXA at absolutely no cost to you—because when you subscribe you receive a Rocky Mountain ATV/MC credit for $25 towards anything in their massive inventory. Plus, you will get all the content in the 12 monthly issues of Motocross Action magazine delivered to you home by a uniformed U.S. government employee. Don’t miss any more four-stroke tests, two-stroke tests, retro tests, race coverage, new tech or product tests….most of which never appear on the internet. And, don’t forget, the $25 credit from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC that will more than cover the cost of your subscription. To subscribe call (800) 767-0345 or Click Here

• THE TOP TEN FROM THE 250 & 450 CLASSES AT MT. MORRIS

Ken Roczen made a surprise visit to last weekend’s Mt. Morris National. In what would have been a boring race for the fans, Ken made their day by putting up a spirit fight with Jett Lawrence. Ken didn’t win, but that’s only if you don’t count the hearts of the fans.

Hunter Lawrence 2023 Thunder Valley National-8210
Hunter Lawrence was penalized 7 points for jumping on the Red Cross flag. He didn’t like it, but that flag is for the safety of riders and track workers on the other side of jumps. (and someday the guy laying on the other side could be him). There are lots of excuses for why a rider jumped the Red Cross flags, but none of them are worth the risk of killing another rider.

250 RESULTS: MT. MORRIS NATIONAL
1. Hunter Lawrence (Hon)…3-1
2. R.J. Hampshire (Hus)… 1-7

RJ Hampshire 2023 Thunder Valley National-9497The 250 class has not been all that competitive up front— every now and then a long shot will win the first moto, but Hunter Lawrence always takes the second moto and the overall. • 2023 FIM WORLD MOTOCROSS WINNERS AT A GLANCE

Jorge Prado (61) scored his second 450 Grand Prix victory of 2023 season in Germany. That doesn’t seem like enough wins to give him the points lead when compared to Jeffrey Herlings five wins, but Prado has earned over 70 points from Saturday’s qualifying races and, with Jeffrey Herlings gone for at least two or more races with a neck injury, Jorge will be able to pad his current 67 point lead in the title chase.
