MXA’S WEEKEND NEWS ROUND-UP: THE MOST STACKED FIELD EVER IS STILL STACKED, BUT IN A DECLINING ORDER

• LEST WE FORGET! LAST WEEK’S SAN FRANCISCO MUDFEST TOP TENS & OTHER NOTABLES

Chase Sexton got the jump out of the gate and rode a flawless race, if you don’t count his collision with Jett Lawrence while lapping him, to win the San Francisco Supercross.

Eli Tomac came back from a very medicore performance at Anaheim 1 to race through the mud to second in San Francisco and third in 450 points.

Ken Roczen found himself way in the back on the first lap of the 450 main, but he clawed his way past everyone except Sexton and Tomac to land on the podium.

Cooper Webb is suddenly 18 points behind after only two races. He was been fast, but unlucky in San Francisco.

Jorge Prado (111) won the first 450 heat race and although he botched the start in the 450 main he came through to get his first-ever top ten in AMA Supercross with a seventh.

Two weeks ago Jett Lawrence was the “first-ever 450 rookie to win his first-ever 450 Supercross” and this past weekend he was the “first-ever 450 rookie to get lapped in his second-ever 450 Supercross.” Bad things happen to good people in a mud race!

Chad Reed gave up his number 22, by not competing for a couple of years. Freddie Noren earned the number for the 2024 season.

Jordon Smith was second at Anaheim 1 and first in San Francisco in the 250 West. He will have the Red Plate on Saturday night in San Diego. Jordon is 5 points ahead of Levi Kitchen and 9 points in front of R.J. Hampshire.

R.J. Hampshire cam into San Francisco with the Red Plate of the points leader, but an unfortunate collision with Anthony Bourdon got him stuck in the mud. He finished 9th and dropped to third in 250 West points. He is still the 250 West favorite.

Julien Beaumer (929) made a name for himself by leading the 250 West at Anaheim 1 and finishing 6th in his first AMA Supercross. He was 11th in San Francisco.

Ryder DiFrancesco was 21st in San Francisco, but he’s free to claim that he finished ahead of Team Honda’s Jo Shimoda.

There is a good chance that it will rain before Saturday night is over in San Diego, but the track will start out dry, so the odds of it being sloppy wet like in San Francisco are greatly reduced.

GONE, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN! HOW OSSA GOT RESURRECTED & DROPPED TO THE CURB

The 1974 Ossa 250.

Back in 2014 Ossa was on the road to revival when GasGas stepped in to form a manufacturing partnership and a merger that saw both companies combining their engineering and human resource operations under one roof. It was said that the two Catalan brands would remain distinct in their products, but, unfortunately, the economy of scale ended up being of no benefit for either brand — as big brother, GasGas, crashed into receivership. Luckily for GasGas, they were saved from bankruptcy court when the Torrot Group acquired ownership of the brand and put them right back into production for the 2017 model year, but Torrot didn’t want Ossa. And, in the end, it didn’t matter anyway because in 2019 GasGas was bought by KTM and moved to Austria, while the previous GasGas product line was sold to fellow Barcelona brand Reiju. Ossa was left out in the cold. Here is a quick look at some of Ossa’s hits from the past.

MXA’S HANDY-DANDY PRE-MIX RATIO CHART BY GALLON & RATIO

This easy-to-use chart tells you how much oil to pour into 1 , 2,  2.5, 3, 4 or 5 gallons of gas to get the proper oil-to-gas ratio you are looking for. MXA typically runs Maxima K2 at 40:1 —which would be 16 ounces of oil to 5 gallons of gas. If we didn’t need 5 gallons, but only wanted 1 gallon of premix, we would a 3.20 ounces to 1 gallon of gas. All you have to do is pick your favorite premix ratio and follow the chart to how many gallons  you want
