MXA’S WEEKEND NEWS ROUND-UP: THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD OF MOTOCROSS

• CHANCE HYMAS UNDERGOES SURGERY FOR TORN ACL: OUT OF THE 250 NATIONALS

Chance Hymas 2023 Hangtown National-7304

Team HRC rider Chance Hymas underwent successful surgery on Tuesday to repair a left-knee injury that he suffered while training in Florida eight days ago. Dr. Warren Kramer in Newport Beach, California, confirmed that Hymas’s ACL had been torn, and although the Idaho native felt he was able to ride, he and his team ultimately decided that it would be more prudent for him to undergo reconstruction surgery.

Hymas said. “I feel like I had found my speed and was making good progress on improving my consistency and was really excited to head to Red Bud for the next round. This injury is unfortunate, and I actually feel like I could race if I had to, but it’s better for my health to get it taken care of now, and I’m thankful that my team supports that.”

• JORDON SMITH SIDELINED WITH LIGAMENT DAMAGE TO HIS THUMB

Jordon Smith 2023 Thunder Valley National-9966Jordon is currently out of the top ten in 250 National points and can’t afford to miss too many 250 Nationals.

Star Yamaha has the biggest team, so it is only natural that they will have the most injuries. Jordon Smith had a practice crash this past week that resulted in ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) damage. A UCL injury affect grip strength and is painful when the thumb is moved rearward. Smith will join fellow Star Yamaha teammates Nick Romano, Guillem Farres and Nate Thrasher on the injured reserve list.

Jordon Smith said: “Well,  not the news I am wanting to share today. I had a crash while practicing last week that resulted in a wrist sprain and an injury to my UCL in my thumb. One of my main goals for this outdoor season was to be there for every single moto, so this is a big disappointment. Not exactly sure the time table to be back on the bike at this time but I will definitely be missing the next few rounds of the Nationals. The goal at this point is to be back to 100% for the SuperMotocross playoff races and make a run at that. Thanks to Star Racing Yamaha for having my back! We will be back soon.”

• SURPRISE! YAMAHA PULLS OUT OF THE SNOWMOBILE BUSINESS

Yamaha announced plans for an eventual withdrawal of the snowmobile business. Yamaha plans to end sales of snowmobiles in Japan to models that are currently on showroom floors, in Europe through the 2024 model year, and in North America through the 2025 model year. Yamaha has concluded it will be difficult to continue a sustainable business in the snowmobile market. Yamaha will ensure parts availability, service, and related customer satisfaction now and after the final production run of snowmobiles occurs. Production of the recently introduced 2024 models is underway and Yamahas will work closely with the distributors and dealers to aid their businesses.

Doug Henry raced for the Yamaha factory SnoCross team later in his career.

Yamaha released its first snowmobile in 1968. Yamaha also aimed to grow the business through the early introduction of environmentally-friendly, four-stroke models and alliances with other companies. Robbie Malinoski drove a prototype Yamaha four-stroke snowmobile to victory in round three of the 2007 WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour at Brainerd, Minnesota, in what would be the first National Snocross victory by a four-stroke sled. Doug Henry, who was the first to win an AMA Supercross and AMA National Championship on a four-stroke, also switched over to the Yamaha Snowmobile team later in his career.

We take a close-up look at the 1976 Yamaha OW25—a bike that has a unique history because before the start of the 1976 racing season, Yamaha pulled out of racing—leaving their American (and GP teams) to fire their veteran riders go and bring in three relatively unknown and lower-paid  youngsters. The three USA riders were Rick Burgett, Danny Turner and Bob Hannah. Additionally, the MXA wrecking crew headed to Japan for the Kamisu City Beach Race (with a side trip to the Honda Museum). There is so much more inside. Did we mention the indepth interview with Brian Deegan? You’ll never know how much you have missed if you don’t subscribe? Plus, you can subscribe without it costing you a cent!

Did you know that you can subscribe to MXA at absolutely no cost to you—because when you subscribe you receive a Rocky Mountain ATV/MC credit for $25 towards anything in their massive inventory. Plus, you will get all the content in the 12 monthly issues of Motocross Action magazine delivered to you home by a uniformed U.S. government employee. • THIS YEAR’S BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT: SEE THE LOSI PROMOTO-MX RC BIKE IN ACTION

The Losi Promoto-MX isn’t the first scale RC motorcycle that’s ever been sold. But it is the very first one that accurately reproduces the full experience — and pure fun — of riding a real motorcycle. It’s the long-awaited dream of RC hobbyists and dirt bike fans alike.

The unprecedented realism of the Promoto-MX goes much deeper than its faithfully detailed looks, narrow frame, rider gear or officially licensed graphics. Even more impressive is how successfully it captures true dirt bike performance, a breakthrough accomplished through a unique hybrid of mechanical and electronic technology developed specifically for the Promoto-MX. It’s how these technologies work together that makes all the difference. For more information go to www.losi.com/cars-and-trucks
