2016  WORLD VET CHAMPIONSHIP TO ADD NEW PRO CLASS

WORLDVET2016

The 2016 Dubya World Vet Motocross Championship is just around the corner, especially for riders coming from Belgium, England, France, Spain, Holland, Tahiti or Georgia. The 32nd edition of the World largest and longest running Vet motocross race will be held at Glen Helen on November 5-6 (and will be proceeded by Thursday and Friday practice days to allow non-SoCal riders to adapt to Glen Helen’s hills). Currently in the planning stages is a new Pro class for 2016. Currently the Over-40 Pros race on Saturday and the Over-30 Pros race on Sunday. The new Over-50 Pro class will be added to Sunday’s race program (there will still be Over-50 Novice, Intermediate and Expert classes, but the official Over-50 World Champion will come from the Over-50 Pro class). The current World Vet Champions are Ryan Morais (30), Kurt Nicoll (40), Doug Dubach (50), Don Grahn (60) and Roque Colman (70). For more information, to see the classes or to pre-enter (although World Vet Motocross racers can also enter on the day of the race), go to www.glenhelen.com

TAKE A LAP OF SATURDAY’S UNADILLA NATIONAL TRACK

DYLAN FERRANDIS BREAKS ARM—HEADED TO AMERICA WITH ONE WING

Ferrandis_MXGP_4_TN_2015Dylan Ferrandis has signed with the Star Yamaha team to race the AMA 250 Supercross and National series in 2017.

Dylan Ferrandis said, “I had a good feeling with the track in the practice sessions, and got the pole pretty easily in the free practice session. Then in the timed practice period I started a fast lap, but on the finish jump another rider changed his line and hit my front wheel. It was impossible to avoid the crash, and unfortunately when I was on the ground I already knew that my right arm was broken.” Ferrandis had been named to the French National team for the Motoceross des Nations next month, but will now be replaced by Benoit Paturel. Paturel is currently third in the 250 GP points.

UNTOUTED AMERICAN TO RACE 250 GRANDS PRIX IN 2017

DARIANSANANYEIDarian Sanayei.

Unless you follow the motorhome caravan around to all the big amateur events, you’ve probably never heard of Darian Sanayei. Sanayei got a deal for 2016 to race the European EMX 250 support class at the GPs for Bud Racing. Darian finished second behind Denmark’s Thomas Kjer Olsen and won three out of the ten rounds (France, England and Switzerland). Just like Husqvarna-sponsored Thomas Covington, another invisible American on the Grand Prix circuit, Sanayei has never raced an AMA Supercross or AMA National. Both Covington went straight from the Amateur circuit to the GP circuit. American fans will get their first look at Darian Sanayei at the Charlotte and Glen Helen USGPs—where he is a slated to make his 250 World Champion debuts.

AT A GLANCE: 2016 AMA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS BEFORE UNADILLA

DSC_3344Jeremy Martin (1) and Cooper Webb (17) have anchored the Star Yamaha team for the last few years, but they both plan to leave the team. Webb will go to the Chad Reed Yamaha factory-backed 450 team, while Martin, will drop out of the final three Nationals to heal up from his Washougal crash, before heading to Geico Honda.

THE TOP 15 IN AMA NATIONAL POINTS

_DSC6783_Kyoshi_Ryan Dungey_GLen Helen_05282016Don’t weep for Ryan Dungey. He may have dropped out of the 450 Nationals with a fractured vertebra after round three, but he won the 2016 Supercross crown and banked close to $4 million this season.

The AMA Nationals start back up this Sunday after a 21-day break. The 450 title claae is almost a foregone conclusionm as Ken Roczen has a 55-point lead over Eli Tomac, which means that he can throw away one round and still lead Tomac by 5 points. If Roczen goes 1-1 at Unadilla, he will be the 450 Champion that afternoon. Every 450 riders (save for Eli Tomac) is already mathematically eliminated from the title chase. That means that Marvin Musquin, Justin Brayton, Christophe Pourcel Broc Tickle, Cole Seely, Justin Brayton, Justin Bogle, Ryan Dungey, Trey Canard, Andrew Short, Jason Anderson and James Stewart are locked out of the title.

The story in the 250 Nationals is much the same. Cooper Webb has a 51-point lead. If he beats Jeremy Martin by one point at Unadilla, he will be named the Champion with two races to go. There is a battle for second between Jeremy Martin, Joey Savatgy and Alex Martin. The three are separated by only 4 points. Here are the current points standings with three races to go.

MXA PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: SHOWA STEERING DAMPER BRACKET FOR 2016-17 KTMS

RIDEENGINEERING55You can put an HPSD steering damper on your KTM—just like Ryan Dungey does.

Ride Engineering has introduced a new KTM Bracket Assembly to mount a Honda HPSD steering damper to the 2016-17 KTMs (as well as the 2015-165 Factory Edition models). Ryan Dungey is running a weld-on version of Ride Engineering’s bolt-on steering damper kit. This revised version will fit the new 2016-17  KTM and 2016-17 Husky frame. It lessens the effects of uneven terrain and lessens head hake. Ride offers two HPSD damper sizes, 20mm and 24mm. The KTM HPSD bracket assembly retails for $169.95 from www.ride-engineering.com or by calling (800) 805-1516.
